i woke up late for work today.

not that i wanted to.

the sparrow

did not crow.

the alarm

did not ring.

the birds

did not sing.

i found myself

at ten a.m.

with lingering lids.

that felt lighter

to open.

with a heart

beating at the bloom

of the day.

with a new life

pouring into the old.

it is a beautiful thing.

how the things

we want the least

can be the ones

we need the most.
